Shopping at The Curious Peddler is a memorable experience. The store—which specializes in handcrafted furniture, antiques, designer jewelry, art and unique gifts—is located in a historical 1920s building in downtown Mebane. Visitors can explore the one-of-a-kind rooms and various displays, which are constantly being refreshed. From the “man cave” to the silver room and jewelry room, The Curious Peddler offers something for nearly everyone.

The Curious Peddler is unique in so many ways,” owner Teresa Dallas says. “Customers are always amazed at the vast selection, incredible quality and style, and unusual items found in our two-story store. There is nothing else like this around!”

Their lovely shop cat Miss Sunni is always around to greet customers and is a real crowd favorite!

The Curious Peddler features the world’s largest collection of Craftique furniture from the L.P. Best era. Prior to opening The Curious Peddler, Dallas served as the curator for the Craftique Furniture factory. She is a leading authority on Craftique and Gat Creek handcrafted furniture, and enjoys sharing her knowledge with customers.

Founded in 1946, the Craftique Furniture company was a vital part of Mebane for nearly 70 years before finally closing in 2012. Dallas is helping keep that important piece of Alamance County history alive, while giving visitors another reason to head to downtown Mebane.

“Mebane is a very special place! The people are warm and friendly. It’s a little like stepping back in time because we have that friendly small-town Mayberry feeling here, but at the same time there is a fresh hip vibe that reverberates the times,” Dallas says. “I think because we are nestled in the center of this great state between Greensboro and Chapel Hill, exposed to great diversity, Mebane has picked up all the best that North Carolina has to offer. It’s a truly unique place.”
