This state historic marker commemorates the February 1781 bloodbath where American forces slaughtered about 100 colonists loyal to England under the leadership of Colonial John Pyle. A body of Tories, going to join Cornwallis' Army at Hillsborough, was destroyed by a Whig force, February 23, 1781. Erected in 1939. State reference number G-22.   Admission :  Free
