STEAM Junction is a Makerspace in the heart of historic Downtown Burlington NC. We are open to members, Elon University Students, and also offer day-passes for non-members to use some of our tools We are equipped with CNC Routers, 3D Printers, Laser Cutter, Sewing Machines, Electronics Lab, Woodworking/Metalworking tools, Crafting tools, Vinyl Cutters, HP Sprout Design Computer, and other creative tools and facilities. We also offer a store with unique hand-made items made by our members and made locally as well as a classroom for field trips, after school programs, adult classes, summer programs, and more. We offer 80/20 consignment on the store, 50/50 profit sharing on instruction in our classroom, and help with new small business startups. We also offer professional services like graphic design, technical drawing, CNC Routing, Laser Cutting, 3D Printing, Prototyping, etc.

Sculpt your own Glass Flower ~ Glass Blowing Workshop

Celebrated instructor George-Ann Greth with Bee Creative Glassblowing will guide you individually and assist with the creation of your custom glass flower. You will blow, form, and color your flower. Flowers will cool over-night in an anealing oven and may be picked up later. (you may also pay an additional $8 at the event to have it shipped to you if you are coming from further away) Who can participate? Adults, teens (aged 14 to 18 with parental permission), or children as young as 7 with supervision of a responsible adult. Glass Blowing involves hot furnances, hot glass, and sharp tools. You will receive safety instruction but we ask that you please keep tabs on any children you bring with you (participating or observing.) Observe for Free: Sessions are open to the public for observation. If you would like to watch the glass blowing but will not participate, you are free to watch and learn. Details: Your one-hour session begins with safety instructions and an overview of the process. We recommend that you arrive early to check-in and observe the previous session. Please arrive no later than five minutes before your scheduled time. If you haven't checked in by then, your session may be sold to someone else who is on site. There is nothing for you to bring, all safety equipment and tools will be provided. It is advised to dress properly including weather appropriate clothing, pants, and closed toed shoes. (Flip Flops are not allowed) This workshop will be conducted both outdoors and indoors. Glass blowing is outdoors (under a tent), safety lessons and color picking may be indoors. You are welcome to hang-out indoors before and after your workshop session. This event will be conducted rain or shine. In the event of adverse weather or bad driving conditions we will reschedule this workshop and/or grant credit for future sessions for those who can not attend. Feel free to take photos or record videos. You may make your project as an individual or with the help of your family or a friend. If you wish to make multiple projects you must sign up for multiple sessions. There are a limited number of sessions available although we may add additional sessions if earlier sessions fill up online in advance of this workshop. About the Instructor: George-Ann Greth is back at STEAM Junction for her fifth glass-blowing workshop. George-Ann is an experienced and accomplished artist, glassblower, and educator. She has taught glass blowing to both beginner and highly advanced students for over twenty years. Past workshop participants have commented on how entertaining and fun George-Ann is during her workshps here. We're very happy to have her back at STEAM Junction!

Make your own Beer Mug (Interactive glass blowing workshop)

Make your own beer mug in this interactive glass blowing workshop (co-sponsored by Burlington Beer Works!) About the workshop: Celebrated instructor George-Ann Greth will guide you individually and assist with the creation of your custom glass beer mug. You will blow, form, and color your mug including the option of adding a spiral color detail. You will also make and add the handle. Mugs will cool over-night in an anealing oven and may be picked up later. You have an option to pay an additional $8 at the event to have your mug shipped to you if you are coming from further away. Who can participate? This workshop is for adults, teens (aged 14 to 18 with parental permission), or children as young as 7 with supervision of a responsible adult. Glass Blowing involves hot furnances, hot glass, and sharp tools. Beer is an adult beverage but the mugs we'll be making can hold anything you choose (even root beer or milk) so everyone is welcome to take part!
